If Jon Favreau’s 2019 live-action remake of The Lion King left painful scars (get it?), then Barry Jenkins’s take on Mufasa: The Lion King will at least mend them. Favreau’s attempt was utterly soulless, shot by shot, lacking the emotion of classic animated films, and ultimately failed to justify its existence despite an all-star cast that included Donald Glover and Beyoncé.
