Mufasa: The Lion King Movie

If Jon Favreau’s 2019 live-action remake of The Lion King left painful scars (get it?), then Barry Jenkins’s take on Mufasa: The Lion King will at least mend them. Favreau’s attempt was utterly soulless, shot by shot, lacking the emotion of classic animated films, and ultimately failed to justify its existence despite an all-star cast that included Donald Glover and Beyoncé. And while it flaunted limitless technology like a David Attenborough-worthy nature documentary, let me quote Jeff Goldblum’s Ian Malcolm from Jurassic Park:

This opinion sounds harsh, but this is The Lion King we’re talking about here. The award-winning 1994 epic film marked the pinnacle of the Disney animation renaissance, and traumatized an entire generation of ’90s kids in the process.
